Embracing Healing: A Joyous Morning Stroll in Ushuaia After 3 Weeks of Resilience

The last two weeks were not my best. Forced into stillness and healing. I know it could have been much worse. The torn ligament is healed. More on YouTube if you’re interested.

Today, I took my first morning walk in a very long time. Do you walk or run regularly? How does it make you feel?

Like many South American coastal cities, Ushuaia is surrounded by mountain. The city looks like it is tumbling into the water.

I am very fortunate to in Argentina. I am writing from Ushuaia or
Tierra del Fuego (Land of Fire) or
Fin del Mundo (the End of the World).

There is nothing south except Cape Horn, the meeting point of the South Pacific and Atlantic and Antarctica.

The weather is beautiful. Reminded me of a cool, crisp Fall day in Chicago - blue skies, high clouds, brilliant sunshine reflecting off the Bay of Ushuaia and that Antarctic wind.

I am grateful.

I don’t think I realized how morning walks impacted my mental and physical health. Sure I exercise when traveling. Kayaking, snorkeling, climbing, walking around - it’s not the same as a morning walk to start the day, clear the head, solve problems and feel good.

It was good to be on two feet and moving forward in Ushuaia.

Tomorrow, March 4, we embark on an Antarctica expedition. The ship will have 134 passengers. With good weather, we will take Zodiacs onto the Antarctica peninsula ice to see animals up close including penguins, seals, whales and more. It is late in the season, anything is possible - including a polar plunge. It will take us two days to cross the Drake Passage (lake or shake no one really knows what the Antarctica current and wind will give us.)

I am grateful to be going…….
