Two Years After My NPR Marketplace Interview: How Reinvention Never Retires

BabZ at Paracas National Reserve Peru

Two years ago, NPR’s Marketplace shared my story of becoming a solo nomad at 60+. I talked about selling everything, living on Social Security, my small nest egg, and setting out to see if I could create a life rich in experiences instead of things. I wasn’t sure where it would lead — only that I needed to try.

Looking Back: My First Two Years on the Road

In those first two years, I was learning how to live with less, stretch my dollars, and find comfort far from what I once called home. I house sat, explored, and learned to navigate new places solo. Every day brought both freedom and uncertainty.

What’s Changed in These Last Two Years

Since that interview, the journey has evolved. I’ve traveled to new places, paused to refill my travel fund with an interim role, launched a YouTube channel, website and travel agency to connect with other travelers and dreamers. Reinvention, I’ve learned, never retires.

What I Learned

Money doesn’t have to be a barrier to living your best life. Whether you’re starting out, adjusting the path, or dreaming of your next chapter, a rich, meaningful life is within reach — near or far. Reinvention never retires.
